BAY INTER-FAITH HOUSING AND KNICKERBOCKER APARTMENTS

Contact Person: Ray Salmi

Christ Church was a founding member of the Bay Inter-Faith Housing Corporation which sponsors the Knickerbocker Apartments, a senior apartment building in Bay Village, and Christ Church Westshore will continue in a leadership role. Each of the four founding churches appoints three people to the Board of Trustees, which oversees the total operation of the building and the welfare of its residents.

The Knickerbocker, located at 27100 Knickerbocker Road, Bay Village, has 168 units (one bedroom and studio) available to persons age 62 and older, and rent may be reduced based on income. Christ Church members are encouraged to consider The Knickerbocker when looking for a safe, secure, and convenient living facility for themselves or active senior family members. For more information, please contact The Knickerbocker office at (440) 871 – 3234.

BAY VILLAGE DIRECTORY

Contact Person: Linda Jackson, Mike Johnston

Publishing the Bay Village Directory has been both an outreach to our community for close to 60 years and Christ Church Westshore will continue this tradition.

BROOKSIDE CENTER

Contact Person: Robert Andrew

The area around Brookside Center is called “Old Brooklyn”. It has within its boundaries both the Cleveland Zoo and Metro Hospital. The area was settled in 1812 and was once a flourishing city. It is now part of Cleveland and is an economically depressed area. Brookside Center serves this area in many ways, from distribution of food and clothing, to child care and counseling services.

Christ Church Westshore helps support Brookside in several ways:
1. Parishioners donate gently used clothing to be sold in the Brookside Resale Shoppe at a reasonable price, and in a number of circumstances given without charge.
2. Donations of non-perishable food items are collected and taken to the Center for distribution to needy families.
3. “White gifts” and mitten tree donations are given to Brookside to distribute to children each winter, as need arises.

Bob and Barb Finley facilitate the clothing donations to Brookside by collecting items on Sunday mornings at the Bay Village High School.

We have been so blessed in our outreach and continue to look forward to what God will do through all of us in the years ahead.

BROOKSIDE HUNGER CENTER

Contact Person: Iris Haco

Christ Church continues to serve in the outreach program to provide meals to Cleveland’s poor in partnership with several other churches, coordinated through the Brookside Hunger Center. Meals for 150 – 200 needy people are served several Sundays each month. Iris Haco will be coordinating our efforts at the Brookside Hunger Center.

MISSIONS SUPPORT

Foreign Missions
Christ Church Westshore supports Daniel and Joy Geaslen in their work with Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) in Indonesia. Daniel serves as a pilot transporting missionaries and medical personnel throughout the country and he and Joy welcomed their first child in 2011.

Members of Christ Church also generously supported the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox ministry under the auspices of Samaritan’s Purse. Operation Christmas Child collections are coordinated by Marcia Smith. The Jr. Hi Youth Group (h2h) assisted in packing the boxes for shipping.

Cleveland Area Missions
Christ Church Westshore supports Young Life in Avon Lake and Bay Village, both financially and by encouraging active participation by our High School students.
